Amanda Bossard was just out her high school days when she started her marine biology studies at Alaska PacificUniversity in Anchorage. Bossard's journey to professional success began in 1999, when she took a job on the vessel F/V Sunset. It is a 65-foot vessel, which was a halibut fishing vessel, was transformed to a salmon tender by Murat Ariatn. He has been commercial fishing for over 20 years. Bossard married Aritan in 1999, and the pair have come together to defend their businesses. The two are proponents of preserving sustainable and renewable sources of seafood. Otolith is a direct wholesale seafood retailer, was founded in 2007 by Bella Bossard (age 3), Andre Bossard (1 year old) and the Bossard's mother. Bossard had returned to Philadelphia after having two young children. The name Otolith is an affectionate memory of Bossard's deep experience with fish biology as well as her husband's many connections in the industry of seafood. They are often apart for five months at a stretch while they pursue financial and environmental goals which reflect their dedication to their independence no matter where they reside. Since July of 2016, Bossard and her daughter Isabella aged 12 and son Andre aged 10 returned to Southeast Alaska annually each summer as deckhands during the summer wild salmon harvest. They use hooks and line to capture their salmon and then join Aritan for local processors for 2 months. They then continue to expand their direct seafood product market via Otolith Sustainable Seafood.
